Born Again to Kill Personal Sin

What does “born again” mean? Has it become an overused Christian cliché that is meaningless to you? Being born again by God is the process of receiving the very seed of God and therefore being made a direct descendant of God Himself. John tells us in 1 John 3:9 that the "seed of God" is His own divine nature imparted to believers through spiritual rebirth. The seed that God gives us is imperishable, contrasted with perishable human seed that will pass away (1 Peter 1:23). It represents God's very nature or "DNA" that resides in believers. Amazingly, in the Greek, the word used for "seed" in 1 John 3:9 is "sperma," and it declares to us that in Christ Jesus we have a direct spiritual lineage to God our Father by the power of His Holy Spirit. When we are born again, the seed of God then produces His character in us, enabling us to resist habitual, unrepentant sin. The presence of this divine seed of God doesn't mean you will never sin, but rather that you cannot continue in unrepentant, habitual sin as a lifestyle (1 John 1:8-9).
