Church Family:
As a human you have a heart/soul that operates like a kingdom and in the midst of it sits a throne. As a Christian, upon the throne of your heart sits King Jesus, the king of you, giving you encouragement, wisdom, correction, commands and expressing His dominion over you as your Lord. King Jesus while on the throne of your heart commands you to utilize great defensive weapons which all serve to protect the throne from an enemy invasion outside and inside the kingdom. The defensive weapons that Christ has given you are the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, gospel of peace, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit, and prayer (Eph. 6:14-18).
The battle for the throne of your heart is lifelong and you need to know that there is a perpetual spy that also lives within your heart that looks for an opportunity to take over dominion of the throne. This spy musters a militia of thoughts to plot and plan to overthrow the master of the kingdom of your heart. This spy wants to be lord over you. The spy’s name is “desire.” Desire is a spy who should be allegiant to King Jesus, but is often swayed to turn against Him. Your desire can be your own worst enemy. He tells you that he is a better lord for your throne and his strategy is to betray you through three primary schemes. First, desire seeks to betray you by telling you to pursue the desire of your flesh. He tells you to pursue your physical pleasures at all cost. Second, desire seeks to betray you by telling you that you need to pursue the desire of the eyes. He wants you to pursue what your eyes see at all cost. Third, desire seeks to betray you by telling you to pursue the pride of life. He wants you to embrace an independent confidence that you are great and important and you need nothing from God (1 John 2:15-17).
You have to act decisively in this daily battle. John the Apostle reminds us of Jesus' command to us, "do not pursue loving the world or anything in the world - it is all passing away - it will cease to exist - it leads to destruction". The world is a system of everything opposed and hostile to God in human society and its leader is Satan (1 John 5:19). The world's purpose is to win over your desire, the spy within your heart, so that you follow the world's will and purpose unto destruction, not God the Father's purpose and will unto blessing and abundant life.
Be encouraged! The Holy Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. You are promised victory over your own desires of the flesh that wage war against you by setting your mind on the Holy Spirit within you. The Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you! He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead gives life to your fleshly body through His Spirit to give you victory over the world, flesh and devil (Rom. 8:1-11). Set your mind on God's all-powerful Spirit in you for success in this crucial daily battle.
