Choosing to be Thankful... Everyday with Everyone in Every Circumstance

November 21, 2018
Hey GCT!  I hope that you are ready to enjoy this Thanksgiving weekend with a heaping hot portion of thankfulness.  This week has been a reminder of a great shortcoming in my life… unthankfulness!  I have been studying the theology of thankfulness over the last week as some of my close friends have pointed out to me my unthankful spirit.  I am thankful for my honest, sanctifying friendships… lol.  I want to share with you some of what the Lord has reminded me of over the last few days.  This is for our mutual encouragement as we go into this Thanksgiving weekend and beyond to every day following.

A great truth that should be a perpetual thought is that God has created us to be thankful!  In fact, God has created us to be continuously thankful… always.  Thankfulness reflects the purpose for which we were made.  Thankfulness is to be our continual heart attitude towards our creator God in all circumstances.  It is God’s will for us to be thankful always.
Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always,  pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Thankfulness is to be our lifestyle.  Thankfulness is to define us.  In every NT letter that Paul wrote to us there is always a central theme of thankfulness.  Paul had learned to be thankful in every situation including physical beatings, imprisonments, ship wrecks, snake bites, rejection, lies and slander, and even martyrdom.  Paul mastered the life of thankfulness and God calls us to do the same through the life and writings of Paul.

It was Paul’s choice through the power of the Holy Spirit to be thankful.  Let us train our hearts to respond to all of life with a thankful spirit.  Let us choose thankfulness in all circumstances.  We really do choose thankfulness or unthankfulness in every situation.  It is our choice.  Pause and think for a moment about what we communicate to God when we choose unthankfulness?  Thankfulness is to be our only response to a gracious God who has delivered us from a life of guilt.  Your creator God has provided a way for you to stand before Him forgiven of sin without any condemnation as He has promised you eternal life in His kingdom and a life on earth where all things work for our good.  Your creator God has given you His Son’s righteousness in exchange for your sinfulness.  God wants these truths to penetrate our heart so that thankfulness is our natural first response to every circumstance.  Thankfulness will win in our hearts and minds as we set our mind on the things of the Spirit while washing ourselves with His Word.

Let us choose thankfulness today and every day as we meet very difficult hardships and painful people… even on Thanksgiving. 5020202020Recent
