Hello Church Family: If God said that the only way this pandemic would end and get things back to “normal” would be through prayer, how much effort would you make to pray with frequency and fervency?
How is your prayer life during these days of pandemic? Have you found yourself coming to the Lord more frequently and fervently or have you become dull and delayed in prayer? Or has there been no change in your prayerfulness? I pray that we as a church would come into God’s presence in prayer more fervently and frequently during these times.
In Luke 9, after Jesus, Peter, James and John came down from their heavenly interaction with Moses, Elijah and God the Father during Jesus’ transfiguration they immediately faced the powers of darkness. They came down to find demons wreaking havoc on earth and upon the other nine disciples. These nine disciples were unable to do anything about the powers of Satan and his demons. They were getting their spiritual tales whipped! But why? Why were the nine disciples powerless before these powers of evil? We have to go over to Mark’s account of this same story to find the answer. Jesus said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer” (Mark 9:29).
The disciples had failed not because of their lack of effort but because of their lack of faithful prayer. They were looking to their own efforts and not to the object of their faith – their powerful and loving Heavenly Father. This story in Luke 9:37-43, reminds us that if we as individuals and churches have no time of faithful prayer we also have no faithful power. More than ever we need spiritual power. Spiritual power shows up through faithful prayer. Church, authentic, believing faith exists only in a life of perpetual dependent prayer.
The devil hates it when you prayer. He loves to distract you. In fact, as we all know, our flesh does not naturally love prayer either. Prayer is difficult. Let us covenant together as Grace Community Church of Topsail to make frequent, fervent prayer a renewed discipline that we pursue daily. God hears and answers the prayers of His people. We have access to God’s power through prayer to influence nations, movements, pandemics and people’s hearts, especially our own heart. Let’s commit to pray with fervency and frequency knowing that the power fo God will be made manifest.
I look forward to worshipping with you this Sunday at either www.gracetopsail.com or Grace Community Church Topsail Youtube Channel.
Prayerfully, Steve
