Hey GCT: We discussed last week and will continue to discover the implications of our call as husbands to love our wives as Christ loved the church. This is the one and only relationship that God has assigned this responsibility. Wow! What a high calling! The way husbands are to live and interact with their wives is to be a mirroring of the way Jesus loves us. How are we able to do this? The answer is in Ephesians 5:18 "be filled with the Holy Spirit”. The only way that husband and wife are able to live out the God given roles in Ephesians 5, is by being controlled by the Holy Spirit - setting our minds on the things of the Spirit. So, husbands, we looked last week at Jesus’ way of loving us that we are called to be giving to our wives: A sacrificial love, unconditional love, predetermined love, passionate love, providing love, purifying love. This week we are going to try to limit our time to looking at our call for us to love our wives with a friendship love in the same way Jesus loves us as friends, John 15:13-14. If we look at our best friendships that we have we are not friends just for the sake of being friends. The best of friends are friends as they move forward together with a shared passion and purpose. Friends look in the same direction together. It is when we are doing things together that friendship is strengthened. Husbands what are the common purposes that you share with your wife that point to Christ sharing a common purpose with us? Or, has your friendship not been nourished or nurtured and it is in danger of becoming a business relationship - the business of kid raising and kid transporting or just bill paying? Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her - In the power of the Holy Spirit. I look forward to seeing you Sunday to worship our Father in heaven because of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit of God Himself. - With Great Love, Steve
