Is there a way to worship in vain? Is there worship that means nothing to God?

October 19, 2018
Hey GCT:  "Vain.”  What a scary word, especially when it comes from Jesus Christ.  Vain means worthless, useless, producing no results.  As we continue to look at "what this thing is that we call church" we have arrived at what exactly it is that we are called to do?  Our Lord has called us as His covenant people to WORSHIP.  Worship is our response to our Lord, always.  God gives us clear guidance in Scripture on how He wants to be worshipped.  Yes, there is a right way and a wrong way.  Jesus has clearly shown us that there is "vain worship" and there is "true worship."  In Matthew 15:7-9, Jesus responds to the pharisees who thought that they were living their lives in a worshipful way telling them that really their worship was in vain.  Jesus told the Pharisees that their worship amounted to zero, nothing, void of any significance.  GCT, it terrifies me to think that we, as God’s covenant people, would engage in a spiritual culture in our lives and in our gatherings where anyone could come and honor God with our lips while our heart remains unaffected, joyless, lifeless and distant from Him.  I hope that you come and worship with us Sunday as we look into God’s command upon us to worship Him in Spirit and Truth, honoring God with our hearts as well as our lips.

Jesus said:
John 4:23-24  But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
