Jesus says there are two type of branches in His Church in John 15... What type of branch are you?

September 7, 2018
Here we are GCT… as Jesus describes us, branches attached to the vine, Himself.  Here is Jesus speaking to us about us saying that there are two type of branches in His Church.  There is the branch that does not produce fruit and then there is the branch that does produce fruit.  Here we are as His Church attached to the Vine as either a fruit producing branch or a fruitless branch.  Jesus uses this metaphor during His last night with His embryonic church to get His message across very clearly.  He says that if you are a fruitful branch there will be flowing through you my word, my love and my joy (John 15:1-11).  You will absolutely produce fruit.  Then Jesus promises that the Vinedresser, His Father in heaven, will prune you so that you will become more fruitful.  Jesus also says that there are those attached to me who have no sap from the vine flowing through them.  There is no abiding word, no love  and no joy coursing through their branch which results in no fruit.  Jesus then very clearly says that those branches will be gathered, thrown in the fie and burned.

This Scripture is alarmingly clear that a person who yields no fruit of righteousness cannot be a Christian.  Abiding in Christ results in fruit production which proves that you are a disciple.  We cannot get this wrong church.  Let us spend some time in self-examination.  Are the Words of Jesus, His love and His joy pulsing through your spirit as a believer nourishing you to be involved in fruits of righteousness?  If the answer is no... repent, confess, be encouraged and ask Jesus to bring life to you as a branch connected to Him.

If you are a believer who is a fruit producing branch be encouraged that all of your fruit is actually the work of Christ in you and through you.  You are included in the work of eternal works of righteousness in Christ and that fruit will never return void.

This Sunday we will be looking closely together into this metaphor Jesus gave to us in John 15, I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

I look forward to worshipping with you Sunday as branches being nourished by the One True Vine.  - Steve
