The issue of our children is not necessarily what they do (behavior) but why they do it (heart issues) - Ephesians 6:1-3

June 8, 2018
GCT:  This week we will be begin to look at the implications of Ephesians 1-3, upon the relationship of parents and children.  Since your children do not receive this email this is to encourage you in the discussion of the Lord’s expectations of them to obey you - their parents.  There is such a great need for parents to see that the essence of their relationship with their children is as loving teacher.  You are a loving teacher that is teaching them to remove unrighteous desires from their hearts.  The issue of our children is not necessarily what they do (behavior) but why they do it (heart issues).    Ephesians 6:1-3  says, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise),  “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” “  The implications of our children obeying us as parents are enormous.  The heart of a child that disobeys their parents usually disobeys other authority figures in society as well.  Rebellion in the home is dangerous to the child, the family and society as a whole.  Parents we are to help our children see clearly that to obey you as parents is to obey the Lord and that is righteous and good and it will go well with them that they may live long in the land.  We are going to discuss what practical obedience looks like everyday in your child’s life and what disobedience looks like from the perspective of God - He does not like it.  The great promise is that great blessings come to your children through simple, willing, joyful obedience - we need to help them see this everyday.  I look forward to worshipping with you and your children this Sunday.  Love in Christ, Steve

Here are some other scriptures to ponder as you think about the seriousness of a child's disobedience and how our job as parents is vital as we teach and admonish and encourage.
