The LORD likes a good laugh...

Psalm 2:1-6 Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”

As we live in this world with great opposition against the authority of God and those who worship and follow Him, I think about Psalm 2.   We have a great promise to remember as we live our lives amongst those who plot in vain against the Lord and us.  Our Lord laughs at those who do so.  The image that the Psalmist gives is of God relaxing and laughing in His home in heaven ruling over all of the nations and people administering the events of this world perfectly.  As those who oppose Him take counsel together on how to loose themselves from any responsibility they have to honor and obey Him, God calmly laughs at their vain attempts.  The Lord continues undisturbed and unmoved.  In fact, God uses those vain attempts and vain plans of the wicked in the execution of His perfect sovereign plan.  We are told in Psalm 2:6 that the Lord does respond to these who set themselves against Him.  He responds with speech out of His wrath and fury and nothing will thwart His kingdom.  Rest easy believer!  As people plot in vain against the Lord and us, His anointed, rest in the confidence that these actions make God laugh.  His plan and kingdom will prevail.

Father, I pray that as Your anointed we can rest joyfully in the promise that You are God and that You work out Your plan perfectly even as You take the opposing plans of those who come against You and implement those plans into Your perfect plan.  Let your response create great boldness in us and joy.  In Jesus name...
