Rejoicing with Joy Inexpressible

April 2, 2021
Church Family, Rejoicing with a Joy Inexpressible we live in a world that tells us what to believe and what not to believe desiring to rob of us of our joy.  Let us remember together what we, as Christians, rejoice in this resurrection weekend.

We rejoice that Jesus of Nazareth, the God-man, following a sinless and completely righteous and obedient life, died a substitutionary and completely sufficient and saving death, and then rose again to a new life in a glorified human body.  That is what we rejoice in with joy inexpressible this Sunday morning and actually every Sunday morning.

We rejoice that the perfect Son of God took on flesh (John 1:14) becoming fully God and fully Man.  And why did the Son of God take on flesh?  He himself took on human nature “in order that” He might die. God cannot die. But the God-Man can, and did die.  The Son of God put on flesh to die.  Jesus was born in order that He might die.  His death was the very goal and reason for his human existence, putting on flesh.  Jesus died that our sins might be forgiven, to bear in our place the eternal punishment our sin deserves.  We rejoice in this with joy inexpressible!

We rejoice that in Jesus’s death and resurrection, the God-Man destroyed Satan and death.  Through Jesus’ death He destroyed “the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil” (Heb 2:14).  A man cannot destroy Satan, only a God-Man can destroy Satan.  Christ died in order to break the grip of Satan off our lives and set us free while at the same time giving us peace with God (Rom 5:1) and eliminating any condemnation that was upon us (Rom 8:1).  We rejoice in this with joy inexpressible!

We rejoice that the God-Man, Jesus Christ, defeated death and was resurrected.  The fact that Jesus Christ died on the cross does not prove in itself He is God.  Jesus proved His deity by fulfilling the prophecies of His death and by His resurrection from the grave (Rom 1:4).  And by rising from the dead, Jesus proved His authority and power to break the bonds of sin and to assure forgiveness and eternal life to all who accept His gift of salvation (1 Cor. 15:21-22).  Christ has secured for us eternal life through His resurrection.  We rejoice in this with joy inexpressible!

And we rejoice that Jesus declares to all, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die” (John 11:25).

Church, these are just a few of the countless reasons to rejoice.  Together let us boldly confess and rejoice with a joy inexpressible the bodily resurrection and ascension of Christ, the God-Man.  Jesus is alive!  He is not dead!  Jesus has been resurrected fully God and fully man.

And, “Though you have not seen Him, you love him. Though you do not now see Him, you believe in Him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls” (1 Peter 1:8-9).

I look forward to rejoicing together with joy inexpressible, Jesus Christ, with you Sunday. - Steve
