Live The Heir Life

August 12, 2022
Church Family: Did you know that you become an heir of the world through the righteousness of faith (Romans 4:13)? Wait! Don’t get mad or upset. I know that being an heir of this world does not sound that great these days but this inheritance is far greater than you can possibly imagine. We are told in Scripture that the righteousness of faith that you have been given makes you Abraham’s offspring, a child of God, an heir of God, and fellow heir with Christ (Romans 8:15-17; Galatians 3:29). If you are Christ's then you are an heir according to the promise. Every believer in Christ is an heir of God.

What do you inherit as a fellow heir with Christ? Well, it is not the promised land that Abraham was promised in Genesis 13. That promised land, Canaan, was simply a piece of measured real estate on the eastern side of the Mediterranean Sea. That promised land was given to all of Abraham’s offspring in the flesh. Everyone who was circumcised in the flesh was an heir of Canaan. But on this side of Jesus' coming as Messiah we find out that those who have been circumcised in heart, either Jew or Gentile, are the "heirs of the world" (Romans 4:13-25). This world that we get is not this sinful world but instead the world made new, also known as the “new heavens and the new earth” (Revelation 21:1-4). God’s people, those who have received Christ’s righteousness by faith will inherit this world made new.

Even though we as Christians are considered the outcasts of this world today, the day will come when those who have been humbled by the gospel through faith in Christ will inherit the new heaven and the new earth. This is what Jesus was referring to in the beatitude: “Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5). What this really means is that everything that God owns, and by the way that is everything visible and invisible in the universe, we will share with Christ for eternity.

If you found out today that you are an heir of an estate that includes $100,000,000 you would be a changed person. Your day would be different. In Christ you are a fellow heir of everything that God owns and that should definitely change your day. Actually, let that truth change your life. Be bold, courageous, diligent, joyful, peaceful, content in the Lord as you obtain the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls and an eternal inheritance of everything that God owns.

See you Sunday as fellow heirs in Christ, Steve
