Church Family: Your life on the outside can be an absolute disaster. Your bank account can be nearing zero. The future of your employment can be uncertain. The nation that you live in may seem to be imploding. Your physical health may be waning. Yet, despite all of these external characteristics you can experience calm, rest, and be consumed completely with peace that surpasses all understanding (Phil. 4:7). This is the life you are called to experience and enjoy.
You cannot whip up for yourself peace with God though the power of positive thinking, or through a method or formula to calm anxiety and worry, or even through good sunny vibes. It is only our trust in the sufficiency of the work of Jesus Christ, in His life and death, that accomplishes peace with God (Romans 5:1-2). Peace with God is a result of being justified by faith. When God declares us righteous, we are no longer at war with Him. We are no longer under His wrath (John 3:36; Romans 2:5; Ephesians 2:3). His anger has ended (Col. 1:19-22). You are now a child of God, co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:15-17). You are now at perfect peace with God and He is at perfect peace with you. All charges of sin and condemnation have been dropped and cleared. Everything about you and God is peaceful. It is well with your soul!
But what about the places in your life today that are not peaceful? Our triune God, after making peace with you, wants you to experience peace today in all areas of your life (Heb. 13:20-21). You are to be one who sows peace and makes peace with others (James 3:17-18) because God is a God of peace. After God makes peace with you through Jesus Christ, you will be blessed (happy, content) as a peacemaker for you shall be called a son/daughter of God (Mat. 5:9). Why "sons/daughters of God?" Because God's sons and daughters are doing what their Father in heaven does and has called them to do. Being made at peace with God through Jesus Christ will result in you sowing peace with others.
Don't be a peacefaker be a peacemaker. Embrace the peace of God through Jesus Christ and sow it in all your relationships.
See you Sunday at peace with God and sowing peace with others, Steve
